Meditation

Since my music is essentially melodized internal movement, I discovered that it serves perfectly as an anchor for personal reflection, and I started to build a listening routine that works well for this purpose. I decided to share it here, because if could get some use out of it, maybe somebody else does too. That of course does not mean that my music cannot simply be listened to, but I find it fair to state openly what it means to me.

I find it useful to keep track of my own heart, as I believe, it tends to wander off the path of goodness. The noise of the world finds its way into my subconscious so easily without being noticed, avoiding it entirely, is futile. I can only recognize that maintenance is an essential part of a peaceful existence, and my music has become a primary tool to aid me in that.

Current Meditation Routine

The following songs I put in a dedicated order for a reason. I go through the “Themes” as I call them one by one with each song, and allow the scenery each song brings into my mind’s eye to unfold along the way. Each song in the routine does not deliver the full effect by itself, but in context to the songs surrounding it.

For example:
After having delved a bit into what the “curious child” in me is currently innocently dreaming about [while listening to “Event Horizon”], as soon as “Vanta Black” comes up, the new scenes my mind paints from the song expose where exactly these good dreams are challenged by dark thoughts. For the moment, I allow the feelings of sadness, anger, or despair these thoughts cause to exist in me, until they are further processed in the sequence of the songs to follow.

In this way, the combination of songs matters more to me, than any single one of them in isolation.
